My name is Baiba Rieber. I’m an embroiderer and textile artist from Riga, Latvia. I specialise in artistic hand embroidery and have taken classes at the world’s leading artistic embroidery schools – Royal School of Needlework (UK) and Ecole Lesage (FR). I’ve also taken private lessons from other visual artists which has expanded my knowledge and skill beyond textiles. I’m always eager to discover new, sometimes forgotten techniques, occasionally I find a new way entirely how to materialise my idea. Learning is part of my creative process and curiosity is my drive. I often take my inspiration from historical collections and artefacts that can be found there. Although hand embroidery has a long history and centuries old traditions, I’m eager to use embroidery in a contemporary way. In my work I like to research and observe my surroundings and with a help of the stitch connect them with the stories from the past.

Mani sauc Baiba Rībere. Mana darbības joma ir tekstilmāksla un mākslinieciskā izšūšana. Esmu specializējusies izšūšanā ar rokām (dažādās tehnikās). Zināšanas un prasmes izšūšanā esmu apguvusi Karaliskajā rokdarbu skolā Apvienotajā Karalistē (Royal School of Needlework, UK) un Lesāža skolā Francijā (Ecole Lesage, FR), dažādas vizuālās mākslas un amatniecības tehnikas mācījusies arī pie privātiem meistariem. Jaunu un dažkārt aizmirstu prasmju apgūšana ir daļa no mana radošā procesa. Savos darbos bieži iedvesmojos no vēsturiskajām kolekcijām un tajās atrodamajiem priekšmetiem. Lai arī izšūšanai ar rokām ir sena vēsture un tradīcijas, mani interesē šīs amata prasmes izmantot laikmetīgā veidā, pētot apkārt redzamo un savos darbos ievijot stāstus no pagātnes.
